Being a Northern Ontario resident, more often than not, we are slaves to the weather. Even though you might want to wear your cutest skirt, the weather cruely reminds you that it calls the shots and controls your closet. Today it was -31 when I walked to work which is just a terrible way to start the week. When it's that cold the best thing to do is eyeball your closet for not cuteness factor but the necessary natural fibre laying quotient something has. Take today for example. I was hankering for my Julie Doiron pink tee but alas I went instead for maximum coverage, choosing the most amount of my warmest natural materials that I could layer and still look cute. The result: wool knee socks, corduroy pants, wool turtleneck and an argyle cashmere sweater vest, all covered in a goosedown calf-length parka complete with fur-trimmed hood and a white wool toque complete with ear/cheek covers. It's days like today that make me realize I am a Northern girl by geography only. Cold is for suckers I say.
