kitchen tub?

I know a lot of people would think that a working bathtub in the kitchen is kinda gross but I gotta say, I love it. I can imagine cooking dinner and having Lu splashing away happily in her little kid-size tub. Or doing some afternoon baking alongside a happy kid having a sunshiney mid-day bath. And forget having a highchair - just strip the kid down and let her feed herself in the tub - perfectly positioned for a post-dinner hosedown!

But seriously, this is from a pretty amazing home in Toronto - there's a full house tour over at The Marion House Book and I highly recommend checking out all the pics, they're pretty amazing. I think when I'm in Toronto next month I'm going to find this house, befriend the owners and use that tub. Here's a few samples:

vintage nursery

Seriously loving this vintage nursery tour over at Ohdeedoh. I've tried to use a lot of vintage stuff in Lu's nursery (my old baby furniture and baby toys, art repurposed from other places in the house, old family pieces etc) but this nursery really gives me something to aim for. I love the handmade fabric garland and keep seeing it everywhere - I'm gonna have to learn to sew and fashion my own I think.

Also the lucky girl who gets this room, her name is Poesy and I just love that.

kitchen stalking

I've added this kitchen picture to the old memory banks for sure. The bones are pretty much my ideal kitchen - it just needs a little sass, some vintage lights, and a bit more colour and I'd be drooling.

luxury camping

I bet if more trailers looked like this more people would like camping. How could you not feel like a queen?? I, for one, might never leave my trailer. Instead handsome servants wearing tiny clothes would bring me yummy things to eat and pretty shoes to approve.

kitchen envy

Abby says this is her dream kitchen but in actuality, it's MY dream kitchen I think. I detest the idea of uniform cabinets and relish the idea of a kitchen that looks pieced together with amazing vintage finds. White subway tile which has been long discussed on this blog as one of my favourite looks combined with all the rich woods and mismatched over-sized lighting? I'm dying of kitchen jealousy.....

white wonderland with jonathan adler

The Kitchn did a great post the other day featuring all lovely white kitchen gifts from Jonathan Adler. Talk about a post after my own heart! These are my faves:Bottle Stoppers: $18. Available in either Squirrel, Fish, Elephant or Bird. Honestly, so cute!!

Whale Pitcher: for $95. Big City Kelly showed me this not too long ago and I died. If I could pour my milk out of this every day, my day could only be great!

Napkin Rings: $18, available in Fish, Owl, Rabbit and Snail. Totally affordable and totally adorable.

Darjeeling Teapot: for $110. While it's undeniably adorable, I would never spend $110 on a teapot.

bathtub envy

Check out this bathtub set-up!! I love LOVE the way they've incorporated the bathtub fixtures into the bottom shelf of the mirror system. A perfect little shelf to place your wine, your book and even a wee little bowl of snacks if, like me, you like to watch movies from your bathtub.

coolest nursery eveer

Man, check out what might be the best nursery I've seen blogged about in a long while. Over at Grayhood he posted some pics of his new Charley Mae's room (best name!!).

a mural he hand-painted complete with wee little Chuck Taylors! And baby's first taxidermy!

Honestly, if only I could have a queen size version of that crib for me to sleep in!!

This is a mural HANDMADE for him by the design team at Anthopologie as a gift. Honestly...

flow kitchen

This is Studio Gorm's Flow Kitchen. Designed to be uber-efficient and totally integrated this kitchen certainly takes conservation to the next level!

The water that drips down from the drying dishes, drips right into you herb garden growing in the little planters below. The counter has a built in waste bowl that you can then use to dump the scraps into your worm bin composter underneath the counter. You can then use the wormified compost on your herb garden! The condensation from the fridge box can be used to keep the butter cool but spreadable!

So cool....

clocktower apartment

Swoon! Have you seen the Clocktower Apartment tour over on Apartment Therapy? Droolworthy to be sure! Although a bit more modern than I like, if it meant having 4 14 foot clocktower windows in my Brooklyn place, I'd splurge on the $25 million price tag. And it's got a central glass elevator. Which is just handy for.... you know... bringing laundry upstairs and stuff?

meneghini fridges

Wow - for those of you who missed this over at Unplggd, check out these Meneghini fridges.

"Meneghini refrigerators and freezers are best described as Italian Antique Modern in aesthetics, with brass handles and hinges, glass shelving, and various other pleasing details like portholes and clawfoot legs to distinguish themselves from their utilitarian counterparts. Definitely not dowdy, but a very sophisticated and decor friendly fridge with finishes available in aged cherry wood and walnut, Lebanese cedar, mahogany, pine and chestnut finish that would compliment either a traditional or modern kitchen. Lacquered wood versions are offered in a dizzying 500 satin colour finishes, as well as white for those of you who don't like to rock the boat."

Not enough temptation for you? Check out the inside of one of these masterpieces!!

And for a mere $10,000 per fridge, one not get two?? We suspect it would be the kind of thing your kids fight over when you die....

Thanks to the glorious people over at The Kitchn for showing me this floor to ceiling perfection. If I could have a pantry like that in my new kitchen, well there just aren't even words...

the door store

This weekend we also finally got to The Door Store - a place in Toronto that we've been meaning to get to the second we got the keys to our house.  An architectural salvage place, this store is chock full of antique fixtures, door knobs, doors and pretty much anything else you might be missing from your period home.  Ours was built in the early 1920's and most of our doors still have the original doorknob key plates etc but some of them have gone missing over the years.  Thanks to these guys, we were able to pick up a pile of the exact same ones we have in our house!  We also need a new front exterior door and think that we'll have to make another trip and pick one of these beauties.

bedroom discoveries

So curiosity got the better of us this weekend -- we had a hunch this stupid jut-out in our bedroom was, in fact, the chimney and all the original exposed brick.  Seeing as how we wanted to re-do that drywall anyway, we decided to pull a bit away to see if our hunch was right.  It was.

Now the question is:  Do we do it or do we not???  I kinda wanna do it...
