girly day

Today I had the girliest of girly days to recover from the holidays -- slept in, coffee and breakfast, great dog walk, long hot shower and then a solo movie date with myself to see The September Issue during which I ate almost an entire bag of swedish berries.

Perfection.

last minutes with oden

Not very Christmasy AT ALL but still a touching watch for any dog-lover. It's a short documentary about an ex-con whose dog Oden helped him find his way and his final moments with him before putting him down. Watching this just about tore me in half -- and on Christmas Eve no less!!

felted menagerie

So for Christmas this year I decided to make little felt animals for each of my nieces and, although they took way longer than I thought they would, I'm pretty much in love with these tiny wee animals. The guinea pig is for Sarah cuz she's crazy for the movie G-Force, the bunny is for Emily cuz she insists on telling me about all the bunnies she sees everywhere, the ladybug is for my oldest niece Elizabeth cuz I've called her Ladybug since the day she was born and the kitten is for Melissa cuz....well cuz she's a toddler and what baby doesn't like kittens?

our christmas home

I so love our little house during the holidays - it's all warm and twinkly and I just want it to be like this every day of the year. Here's some pics courtesy of an early Christmas gift we got ourselves -- a shiny new Nikon D3000. Yay Santa!

Happy Holidays from all of us at C.Y.G.T.S!!!

  • I want Willie Nelson to come to my Christmas party please;
  • Two thumbs up for punk rock Christmas!!!
  • It's not Christmas until The Kinks say it is!!
  • Sweet, sweet Bessie Smith.......
  • Can there even be Christmas without Darlene Love? Like, can it even happen?
  • Catherine Feeny busts out quite a simple and pretty gorgeous version of that song;
  • What is it about River that just rips you in half? Or maybe it's just me?
  • Maybe the Neko song isn't "christmasy" but hot damn I love her version of this Tom Waits song....
  • The christmas bells in the Lightfoot song make me all holiday giddy;
  • I'd love a copy of that Johnny Cash record on vinyl...
  • Ahh the Pogues, Christmas wouldn't officially begin without Fairytale of New York;
  • I remember the time David Bowie showed up at my house that snowy night...
  • I know I played two versions of Blue Christmas but I just really like Nicole Atkins' version too...

white wonderland with jonathan adler

The Kitchn did a great post the other day featuring all lovely white kitchen gifts from Jonathan Adler. Talk about a post after my own heart! These are my faves:Bottle Stoppers: $18. Available in either Squirrel, Fish, Elephant or Bird. Honestly, so cute!!

Whale Pitcher: for $95. Big City Kelly showed me this not too long ago and I died. If I could pour my milk out of this every day, my day could only be great!

Napkin Rings: $18, available in Fish, Owl, Rabbit and Snail. Totally affordable and totally adorable.

Darjeeling Teapot: for $110. While it's undeniably adorable, I would never spend $110 on a teapot.
