24 Boxes

So Marc and I are on the waiting list for a food co-op here in town and yesterday pal Dennis sent us this link to this great blog called 24 Boxes. Basically this woman and her husband are documenting how they manage to get through their weekly boxes of mystery produce that show up every week. In theory it's great -- "oh we'll eat so many vegetables and create so many wonderful recipes, I can't wait!" In reality I expect it to actually be a bit of a challenge to make it through the lot of it with just 2 people. Granted we only ordered a half box for that very reason but I think everyone falls into a Veggie comfort zone at some point where blindly put the same produce items in your basket every week at the grocery store. Which is why farmer's markets are so great -- often you'll get to sample stuff and get great ideas on how to cook different vegetables. Lord knows they've been the saving grace of our summer supper table on more than on occasion. The problem about being in Northern Ontario is that we obviously don't have the same farming climate as down south so our veggie options are often limited. That being said, I still love wandering the market on a clear Saturday morning with my husband, our dog and a coffee. If we manage to make it on the list for this year you can guarantee you'll be hearing about our veggie box progress.
