am I blind?

Calling all Anthropologie fiends: have they ditched their sale section???  I've noticed it's not listed anywhere anymore and hasn't been for months now.  I can only hope they are waiting until the new season before listing stuff and not ditching it altogether.  How else are we expected to afford anything???

As an Anthropologie enthusiast myself, I've noticed this trend as well.

It's really weird, because usually online stores are used by fashion retail companies as the perfect places to move sale merchandise. They can put all of their sale stuff in a big warehouse in the middle of nowhere (which is much cheaper than storing it retail locations) & ship it out from there. Of course, usually the unsold stuff from the retail locations ends up back at the warehouse or at a factory outlet store locations.

As for the Anthropologie's retail locations: I haven't visited my local Anthropolgie in months, so I can't speak to their sale strategy at their retail locations. But I do know this: Ever since Anthropologie started upscaling their merchandise, it's been flying out of their retail stores faster than a tiger chasing an antelope. So, maybe there's not as much stuff left TO put on sale. ;-)

It often seems that when companies start upscaling their merchandise, the sales often get lost in the shuffle. :-(

I wouldn't be surprised if the disappearance of their (online) sale section signals an overall change in their sales & marketing strategy. Maybe their target audience has changed. Or maybe they think they've found a better way to move sale merchandise.

I know this has happened with other stores like JCrew & Ann Taylor. Both of these stores now have shorter turn-around cycles for when they ship merchandise off to their factory outlet stores. So perhaps Anthropologie has implemented a similar plan. I don't know if Anthropolgie's planning a factory outlet store, or even if they have any in existence at present, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

(After reading that analysis, you probably won't be surprised if I tell you that I'm in the retail business myself. ;-) I'm a fashion designer & consultant/stylist: http://ferlanti.com & http://wildfiredesigns.com. Shopping is often part of my job, & what a fun job THAT is! ;-) )
