bad fluevog! bad!

With every batch of new and great Fluevogs comes the batch of strange and ugly, ugly Fluevogs. Sometimes I think they have 2 completey separate groups of clientele. Here is my list of shameful Fluevogs:

These Memory Hi Compulsions in metallic purple. Ewww. The black is actually kinda fierce but the purple is terrible.

The Blind Faiths Hi Helen. I don't like chains on my shoes period. I can only hope that those heels are, in fact, layered woodgrain and not that peely laminate you see sometimes.

The Blind Faiths Hi Parker. The zigzag stiching, the wood grain, the metal studs, the buckle -- too much! Too much!

The Wereevers Takk in beige and red. These shoes would make anyone's feet look big and clunky, especially in that awful sickly beige colour.

The Style and Grace John Wayne. Under no circumstances do I want my fella in cowhide shoes. Unless, he is actually a dairy cow. In which case I suppose his footwear is the least of my problems.

The Summertimes Ashbury. I hate everything about these shoes. First off, I don't think anybody looks good in ankle boots despite the trend. They cut you off at the ankle and make even the tallest, skinniest girls look stout and round. These ones I find particulary offensive because of the giant clunky heel, the Frankenstein like stitching and the colour.

new fluevogs anyone?

So first off, I blame Kaili. The other day she sent me pictures of her friend showing off her new Fluevogs which prompted me to pay yet another visit to their website. Guess what? New styles! Here's a list of my new loves:

These Bass Minstrels in the most gorgeous blue. They also come in a sassy red.

The Bass Minstrel Beverly in green. Also available in a gorgeous brown.

The Operettas Renata in wine; an outstandingly lovely red shoe for summer. Also available in the same yellow as my Operettas Viardot.

The Sopranos Wilhelmina in olive and turquoise. No you couldn't wear them all the time but man, it would be fun when you did!

These Wearevers Obrigadas in red and beige. Again, not for everyday but that's foot sass for sure. Also in an interesting grey and blue that's growing on me.

The Blind Faith Tootie in yellow although equally hard to pass up in black.

The Blind Faith Jo in wine -- maybe the best flat I've seen in months.

letterpress love

Found some great letterpress cards over at the Messenger Bird Press Etsy shop! I picked up this tattoo baby congrats card for a colleague.

Other items I love:
This woodland creatures 4 pack

This nesting doll card

This retro yellow flowers card cuz I think I had a T-shirt with this on it as a little kid.

And this letterpress donkey card (posted for Jane and her love of donkeys)

....Johnny Depp as John Dillinger. It's almost too much sex appeal for one photo.

gossip girl

I'll admit it. I don't watch Gossip Girl. I know, I know. How can I love shoes and purses and trashy TV and watch Gossip Girl?!?!? I'm fully aware of the wrongness of this situation, but there you have it. This picture, however, might be enough to make me want to tune in if only for the possibility of more moments of like perfection.
I believe this is Blair sporting what might be my most ideal and coveted summer look: adorable full-skirted sundress, a pink cruiser bike so adorable my heart hurts and oh what's that in the basket? Is that a wee little pink straw Kate Spade bag? I think it is!

hippies

As we gear up for our annual trip to the Hillside Festival, I visit Indexed for my weekly dose of her hilarious graphs and charts and find this hopelessly appropriate.

happy anniversary

So 1 year ago today I made one of the best decisions of my life. And I'm talking one of those highlight reel worthy kind of decisions. I said yes to Marc in the backyard of our first home together in the most perfect wedding ceremony we ever could have imagined.

You know how people say you meet "the one" when you're not even looking for them? That couldn't be more true in our case. I knew Marc for years before we started dating but fell in love when I couldn't have been expecting it less. Sappily enough, he healed a heart so broken that broken isn't even the right word to describe it. In healing, I maybe realized that, in reality, it probably wasn't even broken in the first place. It was probably just waiting for him.

clutter hide

I love this idea for hiding all that awful bedside clutter that can't help but add up. Pile it into your little cardboard house, close the roof and instant clean! What a great idea for a kid's room too -- it would be like they got to put stuff to bed too which might make the whole process a bit more fun? This photo comes to you from the Apartment Therapy house tour of a couples' Montmartre loft. Sigh...

the british are coming!

Eeeek! Topshop within arm's reach???? *tippytoe dance! tippytoe dance!*
Coming this fall, Topshop is opening their first store in New York City and launching a U.S website with most items set to be under $100. For the love of everything holy, please let them ship to Canada! For lucky Manhattanites, they'll even do same day deliveries! This is exciting news for those of us that routinely stalk the Topshop website and e-try on clothes. Look out Kate Moss Collection -- we're coming for you!

hypercolours

So these are officially cool again. Yes, I totally had one as a kid, I admit it. What I don't admit though, is that they are cool again. They are not. I don't care if you're Anzevino and Florence. Thanks for the heads up Joanna.

hate the banjo? unpossible!

Yup, this is about the cutest thing ever. Be sure and watch the whole thing cuz the best part is when he kicks it up a notch for the second round.

lamp sighting

Just sharing yet another sighting of my beloved George Nelson bubble saucer pendant. This time it's in the apartment tour of San Francisco designer Sam Grawe. On a funny sidenote, my parents have those exact candlesticks and have had them since long before I was born. And now they're hip again! I love it! Maybe I'll steal them....

hello lovely

So I had a French Martini at Czehoski's over the weekend.  I've never had one before but I'm thinking of drinking only them from now on.  Best. Drink Ever.

1.5 ounces vodka
1/2 ounce Chambord
pineapple juice

Shakey shakey and pour into a chilled martini glass and get ready for a party in your mouth.

start spreading the news...

Well we're NYC bound tomorrow so you can expect more lazy blogging from me for now but prepare yourself for a giant blog upon our return. Here's a quick snapshot of stuff we're going to do:
Little bit of smooching at the Empire State Building to add to our collection of photos of us kissing in various places around the world;

Little bit of nerding out at the Museum of Natural History. Okay maybe a lot of nerding out;

Kate Spade shopping for Kaili. Okay and maybe for me too:

Chilling at the Beauty Bar (thanks Andrea!!);

Anniversary dinner at the Four Seasons Restaurant (hopefully in the pool room, fingers crossed!);

This play with Frances McDormand, Morgan Freeman and Peter Gallagher called The Country Girl;

Coffee and Jonathan Adler with lovely Abbey;

Lots of fun picture taking of things like this!

Some sssshhhhh-ing at the New York Public Library;

Free sight-seeing courtesy of the Staten Island Ferry;

Some sweet "Marc rowing me around Central Park in a rowboat" action;
Searching for the best pizza in NYC (but not photographing it);
Eating at Les Halles;

And I'm guessing avoiding the rain that's apparently on its way. Who knows what else!!! I'm so excited I can hardly see straight! I'm also so excited for time away with Marc I can hardly see straight. Feels like we've been spending time with everyone else but each other, I can't imagine a better way to celebrate our 1 year anniversary!

See you next week!!

yeondoo jung

I saw this post over at Design Mom and I just think it's the greatest idea ever. This artist Yeondoo Jung takes drawings made by children and interprets them as photographs. I've got some drawings from my neices that would be perfect candidates for this.

nxne bound

So I'm going away again so apolgies up front for a lack of blogging. This time, it's NXNE in Toronto so that means 4 packed days of music, meetings and drinks in the sweltering, sweltering Toronto humidity. I'm not bringing my computer with me like I did for SXSW so alas there will be no daily blogging. I'll still take fun pictures though but NXNE is shaping up to be buckets less fun than SXSW was -- don't expect too much. I'm also more than a little bit jaded when it comes to Toronto and it can sometimes be hard for me to have fun the whole time I'm there but I will try. Highlights look to be a Teenage Head concert in Dundas Square, the lovely Cindy Doire and her showcase, Julie Doiron at the Horseshoe, the Paper Bag Records showcase, and a super fun reunion dinner of all the Toronto folk that came up for our conference in May -- the level of excitement expressed by all for this dinner is very reminiscent of seeing all your friends from summer camp again. Considering we're all grown ups, it's a bit strange. Great....but strange.

See you Monday!!

i wish bailey could do that...
