weekend round-up

This weekend was pretty quiet as both Marc and I were in denial that Monday brought our first day back to work after the holidays.  We laid relatively low, did some shopping, drank some wine and just took care of some loose ends.  It was also Marc's neice Julia's 10th birthday so Sunday brought cake and ice cream which is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.  Sunday night we went to this new arthouse indie video store that opened downtown and I was so happy to browse their great selection of cult films, documentaries, foreign language films and old classics.  There was not a Julia Roberts movie to be seen in the bunch....sigh.....so nice.  We ended up renting Paris, Je T'aime which was just the loveliest movie I've seen in awhile.  It was here for Cinefest but was one of the ones I missed.  Basically they approached a bunch of directors like the Coen brothers, Gus Van Sant, Wes Craven, Alexander Payne, Alfonso Cuaron, Vincenso Natali, Tom Tykwer and a pile of others. and assigned each of them a Paris neighbourhood and they came up with 5 minute stories about love, human relationships and the city itself.  It was lovely, sad, romantic, arty, funny and just lovely, lovely, lovely.  This movie is a must-see for lovers of Paris for sure.   It was the perfect end to our last moments of holiday.
